Ashok Leyland announced they are expanding the use of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform by adopting Dassault Systèmes’ solutions to accelerate the modular design, validation, production and configuration management for the production of its trucks and buses.
Automobile companies around the world trying to reduce costs by embracing the latest technology and digital transformation to remain competitive and relevant in the market. Indian truck and bus manufacturer Ashok Leyland, emerging as the world’s top five bus maker and top 10 truck maker, has adopted two of Dassault Systèmes’ industry solutions to reduce its product development cycle, meet rising customers’ demand, stringent emission norms and to cut production cost.
Dassault Systèmes is the world leader in 3D design software, 3D Digital Mock Up and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions and it has been working with Ashok Leyland for last 12 years to streamline the processes.
Ashok Leyland was looking to enhance quality control and accelerate the delivery of its trucks and buses from a three years product development cycle to 18 months. Besides, the company also wanted an efficient cost management solution that would address the complexity of its product portfolio as it tailors a diverse range of products to meet shifting market requirements.
“By adopting these solutions, we can reduce product development cost by 5 percent. We will make a significant investment in this (acquiring Dassault’s solutions) in the next five years. The benefits of this association will be seen in the next two to three years,” said Dr. N. Saravanan, Senior Vice President and Head of R&D, Ashok Leyland.
“Dassault Systèmes’ industry solution experiences enable us to focus on improving vehicle performance and reducing weight, fuel consumption, and emissions as well as prioritizing digital sculpting and surface optimization. Our designers can make changes and rapidly build new variants,” he added.
Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE is a unified, digital platform with specialized applications to help minimize risks and costs, automate knowledge and optimize overall performance.
“The automobile industry faces many challenges, the auto industry needs digital continuity and collaboration. There is a need for collaboration both internal and external. You have to create a product that is loved by customers. In today’s context, suppliers and manufacturers must introduce new products and features faster while managing cost and development process complexities,” said Dr. Chandan Chowdhury, Managing Director, Dassault Systèmes India.
