Dassault Systemes CATIA provides a unified modeling environment, enabling Designers to mix several modeling mathematics together to improve the digital workflow and to enrich the Design quality & creativity.

With 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA R2018x, the Unified Modeling environment is enriched with new capabilities in ‘CATIA Imagine & Shape’. It allows Associative Matching from a subdivision surface to any other CATIA curve or surface, to improve the design continuity and workflow.

Let’s see some of the main features of this demonstration.

  • The first surfaces were made with Sub-Division surfaces with CATIA ‘Imagine and Shape’ and a part of the wheel-arch is done with CATIA-ICEM.
  • Using the new ‘Matching Constraint’ capability, the subdivision surface matches precisely the CATIA-ICEM surface with G2 continuity.
  • Thanks to the associativity inside CATIA, a modification of the Sub-Division surface will automatically recalculate the matching between the two surfaces.
  • Let’s now add a ‘styling fillet’ in CATIA-ICEM to improve the surface quality.
  • The connection between the SubDivision surface and the ‘styling Fillet’ is directly updated to preserve continuity.

Conclusion

With ‘Hybrid modeling’, Designers can benefit from the combination of the creative flexibility of Sub-division surfaces with the precision of explicit ICEM Bezier surfaces.
